IT IS NOT BETTER BECAUSE IT IS THE SAME THING
-The very first thing to understand when learning about a salt pool, is that it really is a chlorine pool.
-Salt Systems for pools and spas convert the sodium chloride in the pool to Sodium HypoChlorite. Sodium Hypochlorite is what is found in bleach... or gallons of pool chlorine you buy at your local store. So in essence, you have something that turns your pool into an automatic chlorine maker.
I know what you are thinking... "Well its still better because it is softer and I don't have to add chemicals!"
-To the first point. Yes, it is softer because you have an average of 400 pounds of salt dissolved in your water. This is the same theory of you adding salt to your bath tub. Salt is softer feeling. I will give you that.
-The second point is far from the truth. Salt pools have sodium in them which is a natural alkaline, high pH product. Naturally, you pools pH and Alkalinity will increase faster than a pool without as much salt in it. Therefore, you will be using much more Muriatic Acid to bring the level back down to normal. Also, Salt systems are programmed to shut off in colder weather. Which means for some of you living in warmer climates where you do not shut your pool down during the winter, you are going to have to add chlorine manually to your automatic chlorine making pool. Sorry for the sarcasm.
One more point: Salt is corrosive.
- Travertine Pavers, Flagstone, Brick Pavers, and Rock Features seem to be the coolest trend now. Salted water breaks these materials down incomparably faster than non salted water. Which means, you will get the white flakes, broken stones, deteriorating rocks, and also rusted pool fences close to immediately.
So what is the solution here to a true non chlorine pool.
